MPs to elect new APPG for Events chair

The All-Party Parliamentary Group for Events (APPG) has announced that an Extraordinary General Meeting will take place in Parliament on 22 October 2025 to elect a new Chair of the APPG.

The election follows the resignation of current Chair, Shaun Davies MP, as a result of him being appointed as Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to the Secretary of State for Defence. Parliamentary rules prevent a member of the Government from chairing an APPG.

Gill German MP, Member of Parliament for Clwyd North, has been nominated as Chair Elect of the APPG, with Martin Rhodes MP, Member of Parliament for Glasgow North, stepping into the role of Vice Chair.

As well as representing Clwyd North, Gill German serves as a member of the Welsh Affairs Select Committee, bringing valuable insight and experience to the APPG for Events. If elected, her appointment will strengthen the Group’s work to ensure the continued recognition and support of the UK’s events sector across Parliament and Westminster.

A spokesperson for the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Events said: “We look forward to welcoming our Parliamentary Members to the Extraordinary General Meeting on 22 October, and to electing a new Chair to ensure that the important work of the APPG continues and that we work in partnership with the events sector to strengthen the industry’s voice in Parliament and across Westminster.

In addition to 34 Parliamentary Members, the APPG also now has 10 Corporate Members, including beam, Raccoon Media Group, Togather, Event Hire Association, SEC, Association of Events Venues,, Experience Oxfordshire Venues, Meetings Industry Association, Manchester Central and Telford International Centre.

PR & Communications agency Davies Tanner, through its The Business of Events Think Tank and Advocacy Network, manages the APPG for Events and acts as a Special Advisor to the group.
